June 2013
It's butterfly season and I have three caterpillars that are just going into the cacoon stage. A word of warning, I had four and one fell with the anise branch into the container of water and died. I usually used narrow neck bottles for the anise, but this year I didn't have any. I will not make that mistake again.
To view the butterfly development, you have to go to the first page and back track. I'll try to get it changed, but right now that's the best way.
RAISING SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLIES
Enter the Wonderful World of Swallowtail Butterflies
A number of years ago I planted an anise plant. I enjoy herb gardening and this was just part of it. Then I noticed little "things" which I believed to be caterpillars. I watched and soon discovered that the birds enjoyed eating them. I did some research and sure enough they were black swallowtail caterpillars. More research and the help of an online friend and and I started raising swallowtails.
I will share my knowledge, my methods, my photos and my Zazzle butterfly products with you on this blog. I will also invite other Zazzle friends to share their butterfly products of swallowtails and other butterfly species.

The 8th Butterfly Emerged
The 8th butterfly emerged today. I had an early morning appointment and when I came home he was out and gone, so no pictures for the baby of the group.
I'll be adding swallowtail butterfly products and later when the Monarchs pass through I'll try to get some photos. So far I have not seen a monarch cocoon, but if I do I'll try to make sure it becomes a butterfly.

Yesterday's Butterfly
This beautiful butterfly emerged yesterday, I wasn't able to be home when it came out of it's cocoon. I found him and moved him to a better spot, but he was old enough that he didn't want me messing with him and he took of shortly after this shot.

Another one emerged this morning
Only two cocoons left. I feel so good. I never expected (although I really, really hoped) to get them all from caterpillar to butterfly. I wasn't here for the emerging, I did get a few good photos & will post one later.
